Red Velvet Latte

Red Velvet Latte

Love is in the air, in our hearts… and in our cups! Though the weather outside is cold we always feel warm and fuzzy around Valentine’s Day. While flowers and chocolates are appreciated, you may want to do something unexpected for your loved ones this year. So why not start their day off on the right, caffeinated foot?

Our recipe for a red velvet latte takes a classic dessert with a Valentine’s Day color and turns it into a special treat. We were also inspired by the fact that chocolate is THE Valentine’s Day flavor! We’re sure the extra effort won’t go unnoticed when you make this drink—and we can’t wait to see the photos of your significant other’s face!

1 shot of espresso or 6 oz strong brewed coffee
1 Tbsp cocoa powder
1 cup milk of choice
5 drops red food coloring (use more for a brighter red color)
¾ cup heavy whipping cream
1 tsp sugar
¼ cup cream cheese, softened
Heart shaped sprinkles (or Valentine’s Day colored ones)

Pull a shot of espresso and pour it into your mug.

Steam the milk with your wand or heat it in a small pot over medium heat until it just begins to simmer. Off of the heat, stir in the cocoa powder and 5 drops of red food coloring.

In a stand mixer or large bowl, use the whisk attachment or an electric whisk to beat the cream and sugar together until it reaches stiff peaks. Add in the cream cheese and fold it in, being careful not to let out too much air from the whipped cream.

Pour the heated milk over the espresso and stir to combine. If it doesn’t look red enough, feel free to add more food coloring at this point! Top with cream-cheese whipped cream, a dusting of cocoa powder and a sprinkling of heart shaped or red, white and pink sprinkles.
