Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Latte

Chocolate Dipped Strawberry Latte

Chocolate dipped strawberries are, arguably, the most romantic gift. They always make their way into pictures of bubble baths in luxury hotels or proposal picnics.

The irony? They’re cheap and easy to make! A two or three ingredient dessert, the combination of crunchy, smooth chocolate with sweet and fresh strawberries is a match made in heaven. We figured that instead of gifting a box of these tasty treats this Valentine’s Day, you can hand craft this drink for your loved one to show them how much you care.

For strawberry sauce:

1 cup frozen strawberries, thawed
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp lemon juice
Start by measuring out 1 cup of frozen strawberries and let them thaw completely. Add the now room temperature strawberries and any accumulated juices to a blender with 1 tbsp of sugar and 1tsp of lemon juice. Blend to combine and taste for sweetness, adding more sugar if you like.

To assemble:

1 tbsp strawberry sauce
1 tbsp cocoa powder
2 shots of espresso or 2oz strong brewed coffee
8oz milk of choice

Optional toppings:

Whipped cream

Chocolate shavings

Strawberry, cut and fanned out

In a mug, add your strawberry sauce and cocoa powder. Stir the two together so that the cocoa powder evenly distributes in the sauce. If you like your coffee sweeter, you may also add in extra sugar at this time as this recipe only uses cocoa powder and not chocolate syrup.

Pull two shots of espresso and as they brew, either steam your milk with the wand on your espresso machine or bring it to a simmer in a small saucepan. If using a saucepan, take off heat once it reaches 150 degrees F and use a hand-held frother to create foam.

Pour the espresso over the syrups in your mug and mix with a spoon to combine. Pour in steamed milk, topping with whipped cream, chocolate shavings and a strawberry to serve.
