Growing up in Seattle and coming from an Eritrean family, Efrem Fesaha was surrounded by coffee from large chains to the traditional coffee ceremony performed by many Eritreans and Ethiopians. After traveling to Asmara, Eritrea in 2011 and falling in love with the local coffee culture, he returned to Seattle with a newfound joy & excitement. Boon Boona was founded with a focus on sourcing high-quality green coffee from Ethiopia for East African communities in the US. The concept began to gain traction and with a growing demand for roasted coffee, our cafe roastery opened January 2019 in Renton, WA.
With a commitment to sharing the unique coffee and coffee traditions of the Motherland, they strive to help coffee producers build capacity to thrive in their communities. They have formed long-lasting, sustainable relationships with coffee producers, exporters and importers with a focus on partnering with African-owned businesses & supporting women farmers. This means that they're not only able to source some of the best coffee from Africa, but also able to share a larger share of their profits directly with the growers.
Boon Boona's priority in sourcing green coffee is to leave more added value and less footprints in Africa. By centering the farmer, they hope to connect you to the people and their lands that make it all happen.
